    What should I do if I know I am going to miss group meetings?

    • Like any group experience, a person receives from it what he or she puts into it. The more group meetings you attend, the more you will benefit from the group. Your attendance and participation is vital to everyone in the group. Therefore, if you plan to miss more than three meetings during the course of the group, you should wait to sign up when you are able to commit more of your time.

    Is the curriculum Christian-based?

    • Yes. Oasis uses biblical principles as the framework to help participants make wise decisions regarding their situations. However, you do not have to be a Christian to participate.

    Do the groups include both separated and divorced individuals?

    • Oasis is for anyone experiencing separation or divorce. Typically, groups will include a mixture of both separated and divorced individuals.

    Is my participation in the group confidential?

    • All participants are required to adhere to a covenant that protects the safety and confidentiality of everyone in the group. The leaders also work to ensure that confidential information stays within the group.

    What measures are in place to ensure that spouses/ex-spouses do not end up in the same group?

    • Oasis coordinators monitor the registration lists before the start of each group. If both individuals sign up for the same group, priority will be given to the participant who signed up first.

    What topics are covered in the group?

    • Oasis uses the Divorce Care curriculum that addresses topics such as anger, loneliness, finances, parenting, and forgiveness.

    Who leads the groups?

    • All Oasis leaders are volunteers that have experienced divorce. They have gone through extensive training and want to encourage others that are going through the divorce process.

    Can I be in a dating relationship while participating in an Oasis group?

    • Oasis is an environment that is focused on personal healing and growth. We feel the distractions of a new relationship are detrimental to this process. Individuals who are dating will not receive the full benefits of the wisdom and practical tips of the program. Therefore, we require that all participants refrain from dating while they are participating in a group.

    What is the cost and is financial assistance available?

    • The registration fee is $30 and covers all program materials. Some scholarships are available. For more questions about financial assistance, please contact Oasis@buckheadchurch.org.

    What Should I Expect?

    Oasis is a place of encouragement, learning, and sharing. Oasis meets weekly in homes around the Atlanta and North Georgia area to provide ongoing support to those experiencing divorce or separation. Each group is co-ed, has between eight to ten participants, and is led by specially trained leaders who have personally experienced divorce. Groups meet for 13 weeks and discuss how to grow spiritually and emotionally through divorce.

    Each week, the group will watch a video followed by a guided discussion time. Oasis provides an opportunity to learn from and encourage others in similar circumstances.

    Childcare Reimbursement

    We understand that the expense of childcare can be a deterrent to participating in an Oasis group. Because we are committed to removing as many obstacles as possible, the church reimburses group participants at a predetermined rate for their childcare expenses, if needed.

    Buckhead Church now offers childcare reimbursements online. To receive access to the online system, please fill out the request form at www.buckheadchurch.org/childcare.

    After submitting the form, you should receive an email within three to five business days containing further instructions, including your login information and how to request reimbursement each week.

    Oasis Volunteer Leader

    Oasis is designed to help individuals overcome the pain of separation and divorce. This ministry seeks to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by providing comfort, healing, and direction during this difficult time. We do this by offering biblical truths in the environment of a caring community.

    In order to create these environments, we need many skilled group leaders that are willing to comfort, encourage, and sometimes confront. Helping people in times of crisis is not for everyone. Oasis group leaders help people walk through some very difficult situations. For this reason, we take great care in enlisting, training, and developing leaders.

    Please read through the information below to better understand the role of a leader and the steps to become a leader. If after consideration you are interested in pursuing Oasis leadership, please follow the instructions below to complete the leader application. Once we receive your application, we will contact you for an interview.

    Leader's Role
    Oasis group leaders are responsible for providing vision, direction, and support. Each week the Oasis leaders facilitate conversation around a specific topic while offering help and encouragement. Leaders are successful when they are personally growing in their own relationship with Jesus Christ and encouraging the group members' growth as well. This requires time spent in the group meeting, occasional one-on-one meetings with group members outside of the normal meeting time, as well as participation in ongoing training and development opportunities provided by the church.

    How do I become a leader?
    Qualifications

    • Have a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ
    • Recognize the Bible as the authority for your life
    • Have participated in Oasis or another divorce recovery group
    • Be a member of Buckhead Church
    • Must be divorced for at least one year to begin the training process
    • Have the time, emotional capacity, and moral discernment to lead a group

    Oasis Host Home

    We are always looking for host homes for our Oasis groups. We have found that the most comfortable place for participants to open up and share their tough circumstances is in private, laid-back home environments.

    Typical host homes need to be available for 13 weeks and have adequate seating for 12-14 people in a room where the group can watch a DVD. Since most of our participants drive separately, accessible and ample parking is necessary.
